Experience in Market Studies and Entrepreneur Development

  1. Market Assessment and Value Chain Analysis in Benishangul Gumuze Region was conducted as
    part of the food security and economic growth in the region. This was a detailed assessment
    covered several commodities such as honey, incense, oil crops, mango, small ruminants, cattle
    and cereals enabling value chain development. Participatory approach was applied in this and
    the following studies.

  2. Market Assessment for Micro-enterprise Development in Bati District, Ethiopia. The consultancy service
    was provided to explore potentials and demand for micro-enterprises in which poor households can
    participate and generate income. Food processing, hand craft, petty
    trading, vegetables and fruit were among the enterprises identified.

  3. Value Chain and Market Led Development Study of Benishangule Gumuz
    Food Security and Economic growth Project, a study conducted to help identify demand
    for potential commodities stipulating growth and potential value chain for intervention.

  4. Case Study of Multi Year Assistance Program (MYAP). The consultancy work assessed the success
    or failure of integrated food security project which also includes micro-enterprises.
    It was conducted in Dire Dawa, Somali and eastern Oromia.

  5. Agricultural Marketing Research in Ethiopia. This consultancy
    service was conducted in food insecure areas of Amhara (Wag Himira)
    and Oromia (Borena and Goro area of Bale). The study covered market studies of grain and livestock products

  6. Terminal Evaluation of Food Security Programme. The project included
    income generation activities and non-farm enterprises the feasibilities and profitability
    were assessed. It was implemented in food insecure woredas in Amhara and Oromia regions.

  7. Sakota Honey Marketing Improvement Project. The project involves honey marketing and
    value chain study in Sakota area, Wag Himira zone and designing
    mechanisms for developing honey value addition to benefit the rural poor.

  8. Rural-Urban Relationship in Kafa zone of SNNP region. The study assessed potentials
    of agricultural and non-agricultural enterprises using sector analysis,
    studied the supply chain, constraints and selected most profitable enterprises
    for the development of the poor people in the area.

  9. Many other integrated projects which involved enterprises and income generation
    activity selection and evaluation in food insecure regions of Ethiopia.

Experience in Value Chain Studies

  1. Participatory Value Chain Analysis of Horticulture Crops in Kombolcha District of Oromia.
    The study assessed the demand for vegetables and fruits and developing the sector through
    capacity building and market linkage. The linkage aimed also at benefiting the food insecure rural people

  2. Supply and Value Chain Analysis for Selected Commodities in Fedis, Kersa
    and Goro Guto Districts, East Hararghe. This was a consultancy service provided
    in eastern and western Hararghe zones of Oromia. It was part of the
    food facilities of EU. Market studies were conducted to identify commodities for value
    chain analysis. Value chain analysis was conducted for groundnuts, potato, beef, and haricot
    beans, depending on specific conditions of different woredas. Recommendations were given
    for further development of the value chain to enable poor food insecure people become food
    insecure by engaging in agribusiness and value adding enterprises.

    conducted by the consultants cover most important value chain commodities in Ethiopia,
    including coffee, oil crops, fruits, vegetables, dairy,

Experience in Evaluation of Food Security and Integrated Development Projects

  1. End of Project Impact assessment of Rural Capacity Building Project. The project
    aimed at to assist Ethiopia to strengthen agricultural services and systems for
    improved agricultural productivity, make them more responsive to clients’ needs and
    enhance the capacity of producers to become aware of and to adopt economically viable
    and environmentally sustainable technologies and practices. The consultancy
    service provided was assessment of the impacts of RCBP
    through conducting a survey of an evaluation of the RCBP and its components.

  2. Mid Term evaluation of Supporting Action to Strengthen sustainable Livelihoods and Resilience
    capacity of Vulnerable Households Project in Fedis, Gorogutu and Kersa Woredas of Oromia region.
    The consultancy service provided was evaluation of the achievement of
    the project in line with its objectives in terms of relevance, effectiveness and efficiency.

Experience in studies in cooperatives and microfinance

  1. Capacity Gap Assessment and Strategic Planning for Rural Finance Service Providers in HABP woredas
    (Household Asset Building Project in Chronically Food insecure woredas) conducted in 8 regions
    of Ethiopia (except Benishangul Gumuz and Gambella).The assessment covered capacity gaps
    for the rural financial service institutions and the needs of the rural poor to build
    their asset basis. The study identified strategic intervention for 5 years.
